WHAT IS “LIVE IT OUTLOUD”?

Live It OutLoud® is an eight-week summer music program for aspiring (12 to 18 years old), non-professional musicians (haven’t signed with a major label yet!) produced by Ted Brown Music Outreach and sponsored by Ted Brown Music Company.  Each student is evaluated and placed with other musicians, forming a band with a professional mentor to create, develop, and perform on a professional level. You’re going to Live It OutLoud® – no more singing in the shower!  The program is educational, inspirational, challenging, nerve-wracking and most of all… fun!  The adrenaline will flow…the power intense!   Space is limited so sign up now!

YOU WRITE THE SONGS!

Bands will be challenged to create and perform two original songs and one cover for the final concert. Band mentors will provide songwriting guidance, and a program-wide Songwriting Seminar will be presented to assist in structure, lyric composition and arrangement.

REHEARSEALS:

Each band will be scheduled for a weekly rehearsal beginning June 15th at Ted Brown Music, Tacoma or Silverdale, and Rehearsal Works in Auburn supervised by professional music mentors. In-store rehearsals will take place in dedicated rehearsal space outfitted with professional gear (sound system, amps, keyboards, drums). Additional out-of-store rehearsals will be discussed, all in an effort to prepare for the Final Concert!

EDUCATIONAL CLINICS:

During the eight weeks, a series of important group seminars are presented (last year Lee Mars from Nine Inch Nails came out from NYC to spend 8 hours in the studio with the students to teach them about mixing). The seminars offer participants an opportunity to interact with students and mentors from other bands and industry professionals. Scheduled Seminars typically include: Stage Performance, Songwriting, The Studio Experience, The Business of Music, promoting your band, shooting your own videos, keyboard, guitar, vocals and drums.  All students are encouraged to attend the seminars; however they are mandatory for students seeking school credit(s) if available.

CLUB PERFORMANCES:

All bands will perform on 3 consecutive Sunday afternoons (July 21st, 28th and August 4th) at Jazzbones in Tacoma, Louie G’s in Fife and Rehearsal Works in Sumner. Attendance at club performances is mandatory.

THE CONCERT:

The highlight of the Live It OutLoud® experience is the Final Concert, held this year on Saturday, August 10 at the Rialto Theater in Tacoma. Bands will perform three songs, live, on-stage and OutLoud, before an audience of family, friends, peers, and music lovers. Expect professional concert-quality production – including stage, lights, sound, and even roadies!  This will give everyone a chance to experience playing live in a professional concert atmosphere. A panel of industry professionals evaluate and score each band’s set for performance, songwriting, talent, and overall presentation. Ticket information TBA.

RECORDING EXPERIENCE PACIFIC STUDIOS:

In the weeks following the concert, each band will have an opportunity to record one of their original songs at Pacific Studios in Tacoma. The concert’s 1st place band will receive 16 hours of additional studio time.   2nd and 3rd place bands will each receive 6 hours at Pacific Studios! Additional prizes from our sponsors will be awarded at the concert.

Amanda’s video At the 2012 concert, a 12 yr old girl played the cello and sang a song she wrote with guitarist Jonathan Irwin. It appeared to draw tears and touch a lot of people in the audience from what the judges and I could see. I decided, after talking to the judges, that I could not let that song die there in the concert hall; it needed to blossom into what you hear and see in this video. We brought in high-end professional friends to accompany her. This song exemplifies one tenant we teach, “It’s all about the song”. Amanda “Cat” Dewell brings an added dimension in the emotion and feeling that are way beyond her years. “Live It OutLoud” is proud to present Amanda “Cat” Dewell.
